A Venison Producer’s Experience

Since the company was formed in 1985 it has concentrated on processing venison for the catering markets, both at home and abroad. We had made brief sorties into the retail market, but these really weren't very successful. Venison doesn’t have “eye appeal”, in fact it tends to look like liver when seen packed on the supermarket shelf. Without ideal packaging, venison rapidly looses its colour and no longer looks appetising.

How could we overcome this? Venison is tasty, tender and succulent, and nutritionally a very healthy product.

Could we find a way to sell Highland Venison direct to the public?

The challenge was to overcome the public’s negative perceptions of receiving perishable foods by post or national carrier.

From our experience of exporting venison to the States by air, we had to ensure that the venison was suitably packed to withstand delays.

Sorba-Freeze proved to be the perfect solution.

We now pack venison in environmentally friendly packs sandwiched between two layers of Sorba-Freeze refrigerant pads.

Prime Highland Venison from the heart of the Scottish Highlands can now be delivered to consumers anywhere on the UK mainland with the guarantee that the meat will not exceed 5°C.
